Incoherence

It is easy for us to say something while acting differently. One of the most important things in life is to have certain principles and stick to it, and as the cliché goes, walk the talk. I’m happy to see on Malaysian Insider today, that Karpal wants Penang ban on NST lifted. While I do not agree with all his actions, I am sure that many would agree that he is a man of principle. I hope to see that CM Lim Guan Eng will reverse his decision on this issue.

On a quite unrelated topic, it is interesting to see how Microsoft is handling one of the biggest challenge it is facing – the Open Source Movement. On one hand, you hear them saying that they are for it, on the other hand, you see that they are suing TomTom. And with the previous Office Open XML (OOXML) incident, it is hard not to have certain conclusion.

Talking about the open source, I have to mention that I downloaded Vector Calculus by Michael Corral, which is a textbooks published under the Creative Common licence, from http://www.opentextbook.org. I strongly recommend those of you who are studying calculus to have a look at this free book. Certainly would come in handy for references from time to time.

And about free books, have you heard about the Gutenberg Project? Those of you who loves reading, you can get a lot of public domain book for free there, like Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, The Malay Archipelago by Alfred Wallace, or even The Karma Sutra by Vatsyayana, to name a few.

For those who are fans of XKCD, do you know that the comics are released under the Creative Common licence as well? Word of warning though, it is a comic for geeks and you might turn into one if you become a fan. Personally I like comic 404 the most. Heh, those of you who get a laugh seeing it, you’re a geek. Those of you who don’t, you are safe. For now…

It's even harder if you're an asshole who pronounces <> brackets.

Comic 554 above gave me quite a good laugh. See the first box? I’ve been using Dvorak for nearly a month now. I have to say, it is more pleasant to type on. You’ll notice that there are less finger movements as more words can be typed just using the alphabets available on the home row. I AM almost up to my old typing speed on Dvorak. But that’s just because my typing speed on QWERTY is terrible as well. Heh. By the way, this is my first blog entry typed on a Dvorak keyboard.

Talking about change, I’ve decided to start using Kubuntu next month, after the release of Jaunty Jackalope (aka Version 9.04). I probably will keep a 25 GB partition for Windows, for just-in-case-shit-happens-and-I-am-forced-to-use-Windows moments. And I might just finally start using LaTeX as well. One more thing, PC stands for Personal Computer, not Windows. Stop the Hi, I’m a PC. And I’m a Mac thing already.

Maybe I should start having more blog entries with individual topics of their own. Just look at this entry, it is not coherent at all. But that’s how my mind works, unfortunately.
